7-Eleven plans to open at least 300 more branches in Shanghai within the next five years.
Convenience store chain 7-Eleven is planning to accept franchisees in China starting from January next year in addition to its directly run stores. The company said the first group of franchise stores will be opened in Guangzhou, Shanghai, Chengdu, Beijing and Qingdao.
Su Jiaqi, spokesman for the company, said there are only 100 7-Elevens in Shanghai, and four of them are franchise branches which are being operated by the group's employees on a trial basis. But more franchise branches will open in the city in the future. "We are planning to launch at least 300 7-Elevens in Shanghai within next five years," Su said.
Su said the group has yet to start accepting franchise applications because the chain is only in its third year in China and has yet to make a profit. "We want to be careful with each step here," Su said.
