The meteoric rise of New York Knicks point guard Jeremy Lin has not only broken negative stereotypes regarding people of East Asian descent but has also reportedly improved the status of Asian men in the dating market in the United States.

CNN commentator Rick Quan, who is Chinese-American, said, "I have heard many negative stereotypes over the years. We aren't 'tall enough, sexy enough, strong enough or good-looking enough'."

Asian men are often negatively portrayed as socially awkward bookworms, but Jeremy Lin's athletic prowess is helping to change that.

A male student from Taiwan studying at Purdue University in Indiana said many white and Hispanic girls have been paying him more attention of late. Some of them told him they wanted to date an Asian man because they are not able to date Jeremy Lin himself, according to our sister newspaper China Times.

Another man of Asian background surnamed Ye in New York says he has been surprised by the effects of the "Linsanity" phenomenon. He said he had been looking in vain for a date through the internet, finding in his experience that Asian women showed little interest in men from their own ethnic background, nor were women of other ethnic groups giving him much consideration. However, since Lin started his barnstorming run with the Knicks, several Caucasian women have been in touch with Ye and he has landed two dates, the newspaper said.
